Objective: By the end of class, students will demonstrate reading comprehension skills, author's purpose of using ambiguity and how it affects interpretation.

Soft Holt reader - page 163 - questions 1-4 - vocabulary

1. Finish reading August Heat pages 158-160 in soft holt reader.

2. Answer questions at end of story.

3. the story, August Heat ends ambiguously, meaning we are not sure what actually happens. It is open to interpretation. This can make a story more eciting because YOU, the reader, gets to decide what happens.

August Heat ends with Clarence sitting with Atkinson while Atkinson sharpens a chisel. Atkinson had invited him to stay because he suggested it might be safer. Clarence agrees and he is superstitious about the date on the headstone bearing his name. It is almost midnight.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT???

Using a NEO, type three different possible endings to August Heat. each ending must be a minimum of five sentences and be completely different from each other.
