Wednesday, June 1, ACT 5

Objective: Students will identify metaphors and similes and make predictions for ACT 5 scene 3 in Romeo & Juliet.
DO NOW
Romeo asks Balthsar for "ink and paper" when he finds out Juliet is dead. He does this because he wants to write a letter to his parents explaining everything, telling them all that has happened and what he plans to do.
Write this letter and consider the following:
the party, marriage to juliet, what really happened with Tybalt and Mercutio, the Friar's involvement, nurse's involvement, committing suicide......
Also, consider what you might ask of them as a last request before his death.

For 1 /2periods, handout essay topics.

DO NOW

Compare Romeo and Juliet. Describe how they behave when they don't get what they want (i.e when romeo hears he is banished, when Juliet is told she must marry Paris). Are their reactions mature? What do they say and do? How might they have handled the situations better?

Friday, May 20, PODCASTS

Objective: Students will read and summerize a scene from Romeo & Juliet and create a PODCAST of that scene to present to class.

DO NOW -

With your partner, write a summary of your "scene."
Directions for creating Podcast:

1. Click on garage band.

2. Click on create new podcast.

3. Name your podcast and save to desktop.

4. Click on either male or female voice (they sound the same). It will sound like your voice on either one.

5. Click on the red button to begin recording. Speak clearly and with tone and inflection.

6. When done recording, go to iphoto. Then open up google images on safari and find images that match your scene. Enlarge the photo, click on "control" then it will give you an option where to save. Save it to iphoto and create an album for your podcast. Save at least 10 photos.

7. Strategically place the photos into your podcast. Pay attention to what you are saying when each photo displays itself.

8. Write a short summary, paraphrasing the section you recorded. Turn into me.

9. Email the podcast to me at karenreina1@gmail.com.

10. You will graded on the clarity, tone and enthusiasm of your voices, a well written, concise summary that is correct, and finally appropriate photo choices (10 of them) for your scene. You may take photos of yourselves using costumes and props as long as they are appropriate to the scene.

Hyperbole, metaphor, pun and personification are all used in ACT 2, scene 2.  Define these terms in your notebooks. We will identify examples of  them when we read today.

Review answers from yesterday's handout and verbal review.
