Monday, Demcember 10, HOMS

Objective: By the end of class, students will read and interpret HOMS, learn new grammar and vocabulary and use laptops to create a visual representation of Esperenza using images and symbols.

DO NOW

HOMONYMS - words that sound the same and are spelled the same but have different meanings

BEAR (n) - the animal
BEAR (v) - to be able to tolerate

BEAM (v) - smiling excessively / VERY happy
BEAM (n) - a long plank - a beam that is used in building a house / or a balance beam in gymnastics

WRITE sentences for each of the four words. 

Direct Instruction

Review answers to Little feet and RICE SANDWICH.  

READ 46-52


NOW BRAINSTORM in groups...
Describe Esperenza in detail - physically, emotionally and academically. What does she look like? How does she feel (is she happy, sad, lonely, etc)? I she book or street smart? How do you know (examples from text?)

Then create a collage of Esperenza including all of these details. You may use symbols and images that represent Esperenza in these three areas.  Use at least 6 images on the one slide. Tomorrow you will be writing three paragraphs to accompany your vision (one para for emotional, one for physical and one for academic.)
