Direct teaching

1. Read together - 320 -323 - writing A persuasive essay. Take notes!!

2. RETURN thesis statements with notes to correct. Ensure that when doing research you find TWO logical and TWO emotional appeals for EACH of your supporting details.

Below are the specific directions and example of thesis agian. If you struggled with a topic, you may go back to the link below as well and consider another.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LAPTOP RESEARCH

Research a topic for your persuasive essay. This website, click here, offers many topics to choose from.

When you decide upon a topic, it must be approved by me and converted into a thesis statement.

Example: Cell phones should be allowed in schools. = topic

Find three good reasons why they should be allowed (to create thesis statement)

Cell phones should be allowed in school because students need them in case of emergency, during travel to and from school for safety and to utilize the internet to help with classwork.

Independent

Then begin researching the topic seeking support for your ARGUMENT. You should be looking for both emotional (loaded words, anecdotes) and logical (evidence, facts, statistics) appeals for each of the three supporting details. Use the graphic organizer provided.

Write down or save to your google docs the websites and information that you think may help support your argument in your notebook.

Closure

Everyone should have two logical and two emotional appeals for each supporting detail (total of 6 each!)

Exit Pass

Hand in list of appeals with thesis for my review.
