Tuesday, December 6, Introduction to PERSUASION

Objective: By the end of class, students will learn new vocabulary, define and identify emotional and logical appeals and their affect on the reader in non fiction.

DO NOW

Write down words and definitions into notebooks on page 309 HOLT text.

1. Read together page 309-310. Take notes regarding types of appeals.

2. Handout - identify if each is a logical or emotional appeal.

3. Read Defense of the Jury System - 311-312.

4. Each table - Take a piece of paper, fold it in half. On one side, list the logical appeals of the author that support that the jury is the best way to determine justice. on the other side, write down the emotional appeals that suggest the jury is the best.

5. Vocabulary practice with context clues page 313.

6. Exit pass - Tell me about a TIME that you used both logical and emotional appeals to get what you wanted. Identify the appeals specifically.
