Monday, Nov 14, Research and Presentations

Objective: By the end of class, students will complete reserch and develop power point presentation on laptops.

DO NOW:

Analogies

ROJECT - We have been reading about civil wars and how they destroy families. Using this theme, choose a civil war, or a gang war from the list below:

1. American Civil War - 1861-1865

2. The Troubles (Irish) - 1969-1998

3. First Congo War - 1996-1997

4. Second Congo War - 1998-2003

5. 2004 Haitian Rebellion

6. Libyan Civil War 2011

7. Vietnam Civil War - 1954-1975

8. Bloods vs. Crips

10. Mexican Mafia vs. La Nuestra Family

Today, you will pair up to research the war you choose. Get some background information first. Then get a perspective from each side of the war and write it all down before you start what I am going to call A VISUAL ESSAY following the guidelines below.

Think of this like a visual essay. Your PROJECT MUST INCLUDE 7 POWER POINT SLIDES ThAT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:

1. 1st slide - title with an attention getter

2. Address the theme - civil wars destroy families. Use emotional appeals (photos, words that play on emotions).

3. Name TWO different sources that you used to gather information (NON_FICTION). One source should provide information from a source that supports one side of the war, and the other should support the opposite side. What are they fighting over?

4. Focus on one source. How does your war destroy families according to this source? Refer to information gathered. Provide statistics and facts if you have them.

5. Focus on the other source. How does your war destroy families according to this source. Refer to information gathered. Provide statistics and facts if you have them.

6. What do you think? Do you think this war was necessary? Do you support one side over the other? why or why not? Is what they are fighting over worth it?

7. Closing slide.

The above are the minimum requirements and will earn a grade of 77 (11 points per slide).
Do you want an "A"?
Then add music or a closing poem or more visuals and slides or animate it, etc. Remember that it all must directly relate to your topic.

Be creative and have fun.

Exit pass

Summerize your topic in a clear paragraph and explain what the civil war is about (why are they fighting)?
